Matthew 1:20-21 ...behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife; for the Child who has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. 21 "She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins."
Luke 1:1-4 ...to compile an account of the things accomplished among us, 2 just as they were handed down to us by those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and servants of the word, 3 ...having investigated everything carefully from the beginning, to write it out for you in consecutive order...4 so that you may know the exact truth about the things you have been taught.
Luke 1:31-33 "And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus. 32 "He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David; 33 and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end."
John 1:1-3 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.

The Harmony of the Gospels offers a comparative study chart for Matthew, Mark, Luke and John's Gospel accounts. Categorized by subjects, this study resource allows quick, side-by-side viewing of what each apostle recorded in each of the four Gospels.
Those maps you probably have in the back of your Bible are there for a reason! The message of the Gospels is rooted in actual history. The events and people of the Bible happened in real time at real places with real people. To maximize your study and comprehension of the life of Jesus, you will benefit greatly if you practice using maps to follow the story as you read.
There are two possible routes Joseph and Mary could have taken when they left Nazareth for Bethlehem, a journey of around 90 miles. The trip would have been difficult and taken no less than 4 days but likely more considering Mary was due to give birth at anytime.
