Day 10- Sermon on the Mount-Part 2

On a hillside near Capernaum Jesus continues to teach on the principles of the Kingdom of Heaven to the twelve apostles and others who have gathered to listen.  In the Old Testament Moses received and delivered the Law to the people on a mountainside.  Now on this hillside Jesus is acting in a sense as the second Moses, the new Law-giver.  He is expanding the Law of God to not just a set of rules to obey but a Person to follow.  It’s not just your actions that God will judge you but your very thoughts and motives. To the religious who are open to the Truth His message brings conviction that leads to repentance.  To those who refuse to listen, His message is terrifying, it is humanly impossible to keep the commandments of God down to the very thoughts and motives of the heart.  The sermons of Jesus expose the self-righteous religious for what they really are:  wicked at heart that no amount of good deeds can undo.  It’s not just a Law Book man must answer to but the Law Giver who knows the heart and intentions of every man.
